Improve the Problem

You might like to improve the problem. Perhaps rewrite the problem in a way that it is relevant to you. You may like to think about who are riding the bikes and where are they riding? Are the speeds they are riding at realistic? Maybe the two people aren't riding bikes? Be creative and remember to write your version of the problem in the comments box below.

Here's the problem again,

Two bike riders, x and y both start at 2pm riding towards each other from 40km apart. x rides at 30km an hour, y at 20km an hour. If they meet after t hours, find when and where they meet.

  1. Two rowers, Frederica and Fredric, both start rowing on a straight course from different directions towards a pontoon at 7am. When you add together their distances from each other they are 6km away from each other. Frederica rows at 5km an hour and Fredric rows at 4km an hour. If they both arrive at the pontoon at the same time how long did it take each rower to get to the pontoon and what distance did each rower travel.
